About Andy
Andy Main is a painter, an art therapist and psychologist based in Germany's Harz region. With an MSc in Art Therapy and MA in Psychology from Scottish universities, he works with children in a psychiatric hospital while maintaining an active studio practice.
His abstract paintings emerge from a lifelong engagement with mark-making, exploring organic patterns found in nature and the built environment. Working intuitively in acrylics and mixed media, each gesture suggests the next in an ongoing dialogue between artist and canvas.
Main's dual practice as therapist and artist positions his understanding of creativity within relational frameworks. Whether between artist and artwork, or in the therapeutic triangle of client, art, and therapist, he recognizes art as fundamentally about connection and emergence rather than predetermined outcome. This perspective grounds his painterly investigation into the organic rhythms and layered complexities found in natural systems—spaces where texture, light, and form create contemplative encounters.
